The Concept of Alienation in the Works of Karl Marx, Michel Foucault, and Michael Herr
This paper discusses the concept of alienation as described in the works of these authors. Marx's concepts of "species-life" and "species-being" are described, as well as his concept of the estranged laborer. This last concept is also related in terms of the French class struggle. Foucault's theory of objectivity is examined. In addition, all of these theories are applied in part for discussion of Herr's work.
