This paper deals with Thomas Merton's book, "Seeds of Contemplation," which addresses the contemplative element in everyday life as well as the contemplative nature of the monastic life. It proposes the use of contemplation, whether meditative or prayerful, as a pathway to non-intellectual knowledge ("witnessing") of God in all His forms. The paper also addresses Merton's sociocultural context, and his intellectual ties to Catholic thinkers like Blaise Pascal and St. Francis de Sales.
