Psychology of Judgment in Saddam Hussein's Decision Making

It is unlikely that anyone in the Western world would consider the judgments used in Saddam Hussein’s decisions as being founded on sound principles. However, what are the steps, causes or roots that have led one man to make so many errors in judgment? Decision making is, after all, more than taking all the parts and putting it together. There are strategies that one can use in making a decision (Byrnes, 1998, p.2). This essay will investigate the possible causes that have led one powerful man to make a series of decisions that leaves him facing possible execution instead of governing a successful Arabic Nation. In the end, this essay will contend that the two over-riding factors leading to these series of decisions are derived from two different techniques for basing decisions- goal based decision making and a miscalculation in the results of such decisions.
