(Please Note: Instead of writing this modern English summary in prose, I have attempted to keep it in the line by line transcription style of the Hleatt modern English translation of Chaucer's poetic text. In addition, just as many of the Tales begin not with a narrative but a digression on issues of interest to the speaker - for example, the Pardoner's Tale - I thought that the President's Tale should be similarly self-oriented in its opening and purpose.)
