It's not an easy feat, translating Shakespeare from play to film, but many have tried. While many of Shakespeare's works have been translated to film, this paper will concentrate on Romeo and Juliet. Like all turn-of-the-century movies, the Shakespeare film still hadn't reached the stage of telling a story in pictures. The process of messing with musical accompaniments, sound effects, phonographs, intertitles, and supplementary lecturers seem overwhelming to the film industry of this time.
