This essay compares two short stories, both of the Gothic genre. They are Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily" and Edgar Allan Poe's "A Cask of Amontillado". These stories share many of the classic characteristics of the Gothic genre, including the subject matter (murder and madness) and the structure of the stories, which are both full of suspense and foreshadowing.
