Coal-bed methane is similar to natural gas and associated with coalfields (Silverstein, 2004). British Columbia has a long coal mining history and this potential source of alternative fuel is found in many territories of the province. Currently, much attention, research and development is dedicated to coal-bed methane gas. However, environmental issues are key concerns surrounding this resource, causing controversy today, particularly between corporations and citizens of British Columbia and the state of Montana. Yet, in todays age of globalization and the new reality of the threat of energy shortages, it is important that research is dedicated to developing an environmentally safe method of utilizing this power source.
