This paper is a discussion of the frontier to the borderlands of Southern United States and northern Mexico. The discussion includes a historiography that constructed the concept of frontier to the history of the borderlands in the same context. The paper also provides a differentiation of the periods in each concept as they are discussed. In addition the time periods being discussed and analyzed in the context of how they influenced the concepts of frontier and borderland.
