The debate over whether school uniforms are a good or a bad thing still rages around the world today. It is an argument that tends to appeal more to feelings than to sense, with people often having extremely strong feelings for or against uniforms. Proponents of uniforms are quick to trot out a glib list of reasons why uniforms are a good thing: safety, conformity, behavior, cost, etc. However, if we take the time to examine these so-called reasons, we find that they do not stand up to scrutiny.
