This paper discusses the themes of the book "Teaching to Transgress" by bell hooks, with the reason for the book being the perception that the educational system is not working as it should and that a different conception is needed to make it relevant and valuable to students today. The recommendation of the author is for a different kind of teaching, a teaching she calls teaching as the practice of freedom.
