Public Safety and Corporate Responsibility: The Case Against Ford and Firestone.
This 10-page, 9-source paper is an analysis of the controversy surrounding the Firestone - Ford Explorer disintegrating tire issue. The author discusses the three parties involved - Ford, Firestone, and the victims - in an attempt to pin down the motivations of each. The author demonstrates how the each side is shifting blame since the cause is not entirely clear. The finger of blame has been pointed in a number of directions in this issue, from the two companies to the National Highway Transportation Safety Board to the use of non-union labor at Firestone's Decatur, IL plant. In analyzing the developments of this case, the author shows how both Ford and Firestone want to avoid taking blame and retain public confidence, while victims and consumer advocacy groups want to ensure corporate responsibility. 10 pgs.
