Canada was not settled at a smooth and gradual rate. Geographical diversity and overwhelming size ensured that the process was a sporadic and impetuous one. This paper will attempt to smooth the uneven demographic expansion of Canada during the 19th century in light of the prevailing economic, political and social patterns and provide insight onto its occurrence. 7 pgs. 14 f/c. 3b.
