How the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom Affects Labor Relations
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom is perhaps one of Canadas most significant laws. It is founded on the rule of law and entrenches in the Constitution of Canada the rights and freedoms Canadians believe are necessary in a free and democratic society. (Canadian Heritage) The Charter clearly sets out specific limitations on the interactions of government and individuals, and in the end, it supersedes any other law, which is in conflict with it. As powerful as the Charter is, it is not surprising that it has had an effect on labour relations, and will continue to do so.
