This paper explores the merger of Hewlett Packard and Compaq in terms of synergy, where the process leading up to the merger shall be viewed as a business plan and evaluated according to its risks and its potential benefits. The synergy of the merger is explored through documenting the public and private reactions to the merger, as well as the financial investment generated through the merger in terms of stock and purchase price. Through exploring these factors, the nature of the synergy of the Hewlett Packard/ Compaq business merger shall be clarified to the reader.
