This paper briefly examines the role that expansion played in uniting the European colonists of the New World. Even though the period between 1660 and 1763 was framed by the brutal and bloody French and Indian Wars, this period also marks the beginning of a colonial identity that is separate from that of the home country. The wars themselves are representative of that identity development as a product of European expansion.
