The American Government has changed radically since the day that the pilgrims first came to America. The reasons for coming were religious and freedom. These goals have not changed much since that time. Freedom and democracy were expressed in the Cold War. Even though America backed away from the Vietnam War, it still made the statement that democracy is important. When the terrorists hit the World Trade Center, America pulled together to show the world that it should continue to fight to keep freedom and democracy.
