President Harry Truman and the Cold War: An Historical Analysis

The first lesson is that strong international alliances are of vital importance in preserving the peace; the second is that foreign policy makers must carefully analyze all of the factors involved and examine potential consequences before deciding whether to use military force; and the third is that it is better to spend too much on military defense than not enough.
