To Ban or not to Ban: Twains Huckleberry Finn in our Classrooms
This paper argues that banning Huckleberry Finn from our classrooms - the approved, politically correct thing to do - is to sanitize our collective past in an unhealthy way. By avoiding Twain's earthy work, young people are not given the uncomfortable but necessary task of coming to grips with racism and bigotry in a society where those things are as pertinent today as they were in the middle nineteenth century.
