African-Americans and the History of Baseball 1865-1970.
This paper discusses how baseball and society were parallel to each other in terms of racial segregation. Though, it seems that baseball was ahead of its time in terms of promoting racial equality. The experience of Moses Fleetwood "Fleet" Walker is discussed and how he continuously encountered prejudice. The effect of Jackie Robinson's success on negroes in baseball is discussed and also what is called the 'second stage of prejudice' is introduced. 16 pgs. 15 f/c. 13b.
